Design copyright protects the “shape, configuration, pattern or ornament of an article or features of pattern or ornament applicable to articles in so far as such features appeal to and are judged solely by the eye”
[section 30 of the Industrial Property Act of 1965].
The total period of protection is 15 years – this equates to three periods of 5 years (prescribed fees are payable prior to the expiration of each 5 year term).

Mary C. Katina Mosko was called to the Bar of England and Wales in October 1977 (Inner Temple) and the Bar of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas in February 1978. Although called to the Bar as a Barrister, the legal profession is fused in The Bahamas, and she has continually practiced since 1977 as Counsel and Attorney-at-Law.
Katina is a member of the Bahamian Bar, International Bar Association. She has also served on The Bahamas Bar Ethics Committee for many years, and is a member of The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce.

DATA BROKERS AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
In the segment, 60 Minutes reported how “today we are giving up more and more private information online without knowing that it’s being harvested and personalized and sold to lots of different people…our likes and dislikes, our closest friends, our bad habits, even your daily movements, both on and offline.” Apparently the information that tickles the fancy of data brokers includes your “religion, ethnicity, political affiliations, user names, income, and family medical history.

THE BAHAMAS: New Trade Marks Bill Allows for Protection of Service Marks
The Bahamas government has introduced a trade marks bill that would update the country’s trade mark law for the first time in over a century. One of the last countries in the Caribbean to update its trade mark laws, The Bahamas has long relied on its current statute, the Trade Marks Act 1906, which employs the old British classification system and does not provide protection for service marks—a serious shortcoming for a nation driven by the service industries.
